Rajarata undergrads released

Rajarata University, Mihinthalaya undergrads who pleaded guilty to
five charges were released. The North Central Province High Court Judge
Menaka Wijesundara ordered the 13 to worship and plead mercy from Vice
Chancellor Professor K K Nandasena in open court. They had been indicted
by the Solicitor General for intervening in the administration by
violating university rules and regulations on or around December 14
,2008. The Solicitor General arraigned them for intervening in
university administration, detaining the Vice Chancellor, harassment,
criminal force and trespassing, and damaging government property.
The undergrads were each fined Rs 5,000 for the first charge and in
default three months imprisonment, Rs 1,000 for the second charge in
default another three months, Rs 50 for the third charge in default
three months, Rs 5,000 each for fourth and the fifth charges, a total of
Rs 10,000 in default six months imprisonment. Former OIC Mihinthalaya
and a special police team led the investigations.
