MoU to expand human security
Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the International
Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Development Program (UNDP),
United National Children's Fund (UNICEF) to launch a Human Security
Trust Fund at the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry
yesterday.
The project will also be assisted by the United Nations Trust Fund
for Human Security (UNTFHS).
'Securing better lives for Sri Lanka' was the main vision of the
launching ceremony of the Human Security Trust Fund.
The ILO, UNDP and UNICEF joined hands to integrate a program for
empowering conflict affected communities in North and East with the
financial support of the Japanese Government.
Sri Lanka UNDP Deputy Country Director Razina Bilgrami said the equal
access to justice project mainly focuses on conflict-affected groups,
prisoners, estate workers, women and children.
The UNICEF said they work together with the Child Development
Ministry, Probation and Child Care Service Department and the police to
reach vulnerable children and women affected by the conflict.
Training for rural economic empowerment, labour based technology,
livelihood recovery in conflict and disaster affected areas, social
security and promotion of youth employment were key areas addressed by
the ILO.
Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi said that Japanese government
will extend its help to Sri Lanka.
