Five acres for Galle prison

A five acre land at the Akmeemana divisional secretariat area has been given to the Prisons Department to construct an open prison and a farmland for the Galle prison to redress the problem of prisoners congestion at the jail, said Galle district acting secretary Bandula Harischandra.

He made these in response to grievances by Galle prison superintendent A.K.S. Anura De Siva over the inconvenience in accommodating prisoners. The matter was discussed at a meeting of government departmental heads held under the patronage of Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasooriya at the Governor's Secretariat, Galle.
