Magistrate warns Ramanayake

When the case against actor turned politician Ranjan Ramanayke came
up for hearing before Kandy Additional Magistrate Mrs Thanuja Jayatunga
yesterday the Magistrate warned Ramanayake in open Court that he would
be remanded again if he is reported to have breached bail conditions or
tried to threaten the petitioner in any way in the future.
In this case Ranjan Ramanayake is charged with having defrauded the
woman petitioner in a sum of Rs 1 million, promising to marry her. The
Magistrate who postponed the case for May 11, noticed the petitioner who
was not in Court, to appear in Court on the next date. Earlier Attorney
Ranjith Bandara Welikumbura appearing for the petitioner, a lady teacher
of Katugastota, said Ramanayake is reported to have issued threats to
the teacher after he was released on bail.
