Power stations to be opened for public

The Power and Energy Ministry will open Victoria, Wimalasurendra, Samanalawewa and Kelanitissa power stations for public viewing from December 13.

The stations were closed for the public for eight years, a Power and Energy Ministry spokesman said.

He said Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka had ordered officials to keep the power stations open for the public during the school vacation to educate schoolchildren and the public on power generation and mechanism of power stations.

The power station officials have planned a special educational program for the public. The public will be educated on power saving and related topics under this. They will be allowed to view functions of power stations, he said.

School principals can make requests from the CEB. A special counter will be set up at the CEB Head Office shortly.

The individuals or institutions wish to view the power stations should send a written request to General Manager, Ceylon Electricity Board, Sir Chiththampalam A Gardinar Mawatha, Colombo 2.
