Heavy rains lash country:

Sluice gates opened

Irrigation authorities have opened sluice gates of all major reservoirs as they have reached spill level due to heavy rains being experienced islandwide.

People living in the major reservoir areas have been warned to be vigilant as the low lying areas may go under water. Water levels of main reservoirs in the hill capital have also reached the spill level.

Cultivation hampered

Heavy inter-monsoonal rains experienced in the Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Polonnaruwa Districts have severely hampered the Maha season paddy cultivation launched by farmers in the regions.
