MPs documents cannot be probed - Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa yesterday stated that it was not necessary to investigate into the authenticity of documents and statistics submitted by members to Parliament and they should take the responsibility for them on their own.

The Speaker further pointed out that if a particular member says those statistics and information were incorrect, the responsibility of the denial should be taken by the same.

The Speaker made this observation when Government members queried the statement made by UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe at the commencement of sittings.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Rajitha Senaratne Saturday questioned the statistics submitted by Senasinghe on the same day. Parliamentarian Senasinghe made a statement yesterday in this regard. Some members wanted these documents to be investigated.

The Speaker said that so far such investigations had not been conducted in Parliamentary history adding that it was not necessary to hold an investigation.
