Mahaweli water for Galgamuwa, Yapahuwa

The North Western Province Irrigation Department is studying a proposal to supply water from the Mahaweli river to the people of Galgamuwa and Yapahuwa.

Deduru-Oya project Director and North Western Province Irrigation Engineer H M L Tilakaratne Bandara explained the proposal to officials during a visit to the Dedeuru-Oya project. The engineer said that a tunnel would be constructed from Bowathenna reservoir in Matale to Wemedilla reservoir in Galewela under the proposed project.

The Project Director pointed out that his plan was to feed Wemedilla reservoir and to carry water to Mahananneriya and Thabbowa tanks.

He said the proposed project could be implemented after completing the construction works of the Moragahakanda project.
