National Dengue Control Week - Dec 1 to 7
The National Dengue Control Week will be from December 1 to 7. This
will only be a preventive measure because there is a possibility of the
spread of dengue with the ongoing rains, Health Minister Maithripala
Sirisena said.
Addressing a special press briefing held at the Health Ministry
Auditorium yesterday Minister Sirisena said that dengue fever was
controlled successfully with the assistance of the Presidential Task
Force, the Armed Forces, all State and Non Governmental Organizations
and the media. The public is now showing a special interest in
controlling dengue. Two National Dengue Control Weeks have been
implemented. This year the condition shows a significant improvement
when comparing with the same period last year.
Minister Sirisena pointed out that all public and private premises,
especially schools and pre-schools will be inspected during the third
National Dengue Control Week.
Controlling dengue will help in the control of many other diseas es.
Rabies was controlled during the past few months through the National
Dengue Control Program. Therefore, it brings many other health benefits
to the public. There were no dengue deaths during the past few weeks and
only one dengue death was reported in the last week of October. It is
our duty not to let even a single person die from dengue, the Minister
added.
