Lights for remote areas

Small villages, clusters of houses or individual houses in the remotest parts of the country which cannot be accessed by the national grid can now obtain electricity facilities through alternative means through the Sharamashakthi program implemented by the Power and Energy Ministry.

Under this program, easy loans are granted to obtain electricity supplies utilizing sustainable energy sources such as solar energy units, small scale power stations, hybrid solar-wind units, small firewood power stations, bio gas technology or extensions, said the Ministry in a press release yesterday. Those wishing to make use of this faculty should contact the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority on 011-2677445.
