Students hospitalized after fainting at assembly

*No signs of food poisoning

*Treated at Emergency Unit

Over 70 students of an estate school were admitted to the Nawalapitiya Base Hospital yesterday after complaining of being faintish.

Nawalapitiya Base Hospital Acting Director Dr Ananda Senerath Bandara said several students had fainted during school assembly in the morning while others had complained of being faintish.

The school is situated 15 Km away from Nawalapitiya town.

Dr Bandara said the students received treatment in the Emergency Treatment Unit and the medical wards.

“The students did not show any sign of food poisoning,” he added.

He said that most children in Estate schools do not take breakfast and this may have led to them faint. Dr Bandara added that the students were under observation.

These students were discharged yesterday evening.
