Historical medical session in Jaffna

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) and the Japan Medical Association held a joint medical scientific session last month in Jaffna at the Jaffna Medical Faculty.

Ceylon Medical College Council Registrar and Sri Lanka Association for the Welfare of Centenarians President Prof Colvin Goonaratne describing why this was historical said, in the history of the two Associations, this is the first time they had a joint scientific session in Jaffna. The SLMA is 1,230 years and the JMA 70 years.

"This was also the first time that the Dr E M Wijerama Endowment Oration was held there," Prof Goonaratne said.

Prof Goonaratne who made the Dr Wijerama Oration at this joint scientific session also presented to the Jaffna Medical Library several copies of the book, Sri Lanka Patients Formulary he had written recently.
