Herath - adjudged best boxer

The Inter Unit Boxing Tournament of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC)
concluded its finals at the Army Headquarters indoor stadium on Tuesday
evening.
The winner in bout 32 - Light fly Weight (59 kgs) Lance Corporal
Wijesundara DMJ (8 SLAC) attacking Trooper Sanjeewa Nuwan MPG (8
SLAC) through his defence. |

The finals had bouts under 52, 56, 59, 60 and 64 Kgs categories
including Fly Weight, Bantam Weight, Light Fly Weight, Light Weight and
Light Welter Weight.
Lance Corporal Herath HMIS (8 SLAC), Trooper Janaka KJ (3 SLAC),
Lance Corporal Wijesundara DMJ (8 SLAC), Lance Corporal Perera DSL (8
SLAC) and trooper Silva WKS (3 SLAC) secured first places beating their
opponents respectively. The boxers battled for supremacy while the
gathering gave them loud cheering and applause.
Trooper Jayawardena AR (9 SLRC) became the best loser in the tourney
while Lance Corporal Herath HMIS ( 8 SLAC) won the best boxer award. The
championship went to Support Regiment 8.
There were two exhibition bouts by Lance Corporal Bandara MVGCS (ESR)
and Private Perera WACI (SLAOC) which entertained the enthusiastic
spectators . The women exhibition bout between Lance Corporal Sumudu PK
(SLAWC) and Lance Corporal Karunarathna SDNS added colour to the
occasion and took the attraction of all. The chief guest Lieutenant
General Jagath Jayasooriya gave away the colours and trophies. Major
General M.P. Peris ( vice chancellor , General Sir John Kotelawala
Defence University) and other higher ranking officials of the SLAC
witnessed the encounter. |
