Lanka top in Open Budget Index
Sri Lanka is placed top in the Open Budget Index 2010 scoring 67
points according to a survey conducted by International Budget
Partnership (IBP).
Apart from Sri Lanka, India too has reached a significant level of 67
points whereas the other countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal and
Pakistan stand low in the South Asian region.
The Open Budget Index indicates the budgets transparency. Building
adequate checks and balances into the Budget process can enhance the
creditability and prioritization of policy decisions, limit corrupt and
wasteful spending and facilitate access to international financial
markets, the survey report said. HP |
