EU delays Sahara analysis
Belgium: The European Union (EU) postponed until December an
analysis of events in Western Sahara following a Moroccan attack on a
protest camp of peaceful Saharawis, diplomatic sources corroborated.
An examination of the violence unleashed by the Moroccan Army against
residents of El Aaiun, occupied since 1975, was not included in the
agenda of the EU ministerial meeting next Monday, confirmed the press
office of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Catherine
Ashton.
The European Parliament Thursday announced the postponement of a vote
on a resolution on the Sahara, following an agreement reached between
the Socialists and popular representatives, according to parliamentary
sources.
Brussels chose to address the issue with Morocco on December 13
during the meeting of the bilateral Association Council, one month after
the violent assault on the camp of Sahrawi activists, condemned by the
United Nations and many governments around the world.
