US assists Northern farmers
The United States Embassy and the US Agency for International
Development (USAID) will fund $5 million to the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization to provide paddy seed and the equipment for Northern
farmers.
US mission deputy chief Valerie Fowler and FAO Country
Representative, Patrick Evans signed the agreement Tuesday in this
regard.
The money will also help train farmers and renovate irrigation canals
and local tanks. Over 55,000 Sri Lankans in the North will benefit. |
