Technology helps reduce village, town distance

Technology helps reduce the distance between the village and town, Technology and Research Minister Prof Tissa Vitharana said. “People are suffering due to poverty and ignorance. We must take immediate action by using technology to change that situation,” he said at the opening of the JAVA World Congress and Exhibition 2010 organized by the JAVA World Congress Secretariat, National Languages and Social Integration Ministry and Technology and Research Ministry in Colombo yesterday.

The Minister said ‘Vidatha’ media institutions will be set-up in each divisional secretariat to provide International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) to over 25,000 youth. This exhibition held for the first time in Sri Lanka will continue for several days. ICT for Sustainable Development is the theme of this exhibition.

National Languages and Social Integration Minister S B Navinna and 15 foreign delegates also participated.
