Sri Lanka has great potential

A new era with new economic and financial challenges has dawned after
eliminating terrorism. To face these challenges successfully in the
fiercely competitive world, a well-rounded enlightened team is required,
said Kosala G Tantula, a Sri Lankan born Financial Consultant in
Washington DC.

"Sri Lanka has great potential as an emerging economy but the
opportunity to rise up to that level should not be allowed to waste. The
only way the President could attain success will be by having a team of
intelligent advisors to advise on internal policymaking as well as
external," Tantula said.
The President needs to obtain the services of ethically trained,
intelligent, educated professionals of a high calibre to implement his
fiscal and foreign policies, he said.
Due to brain-drain, there is currently a shortage of well-trained
advisors and other personnel in the country.
The cue for this will be to entice the Sri Lankan diaspora across the
world to contribute their services in whichever possible way.
The entire political and social structures have to be readjusted.
That will be one way to attract professionals with integrity, he
said. Lessons can be learnt from emerging economies such as India which
not only encourage but also give many incentives to returning
expatriates, he said. |
