A friend on the street

I love dogs, and yes practically everybody who knows me knows that I’m a crazy dog person.

Mr Paksty Pictures by Ruwan de Silva

I do love other animals and practically go screaming at every cute thing they do, but dogs – I don’t know – there’s just something about the way they were look, they smile, they come wagging their tail and how actually they make me forget all the troubles in my head.

When I am upset all I do is go to Google images and type cute animals and every picture just makes me smile and laugh to myself and forget every bad thing that happened to me in the course of the day.

Everywhere I go, I meet a new dog. Some are welcoming, some are frightened to approach as they fear some harm would come upon them because of their previous experiences and there are the others who just like to sit, wait and stare and hmm basically mind their own business.

I had many experiences in all parts of the country and at that time I had no camera with me to capture and have a collection, but recently I was lucky. My friend and colleague came along with me for a little sun down event at Park Street Mews and thats where I met my new friend on the street.

He was absolutely adorable and all I wanted to do was keep petting him and wait.

The story behind my friend is that he has only three legs, but that didn’t stop him teams the most liveliest or the happiest dog in the world doing his thing with no worry in the world.

As the story goes from on the staff working at Park Street Mews, Mr Paksty (my name for him) was found as a puppy somewhere in Angoda very badly injured. He was brought to the Vet and everything was done to heal his wounds but sadly to do so, his injured leg had to be amputated. And after that he was brought here and he has being there for as long as they can remember.

Paksty was no trouble to anyone.

He was the most well trained dog I know on the street. Park Street Mews being one of the known places in Colombo, people of all sorts come there and that particular day nobody was irritated that a “street dog” was hovering around.

Everyone was happy with him, and he would go from table to table look at them and if they didn’t respond he would move on or he would just find a corner and sleep there till someone calls him.

I really hope that no one drives Paksty away and that he would be treated the same as home pet by anyone who comes there as he really does no harm to anyone in manner.

To the one who loves animals and dogs specially like me, I know you will make a trip uptown to see him and just a tip, he loves a good stroke under the chin.
