New GM at Taj Airport Garden

Shekhar Walavalkar

Sri Lanka has taken the right decision in promoting tourism that will be the most important foreign exchange earner to the country.

The tourism sector in Sri Lanka is happening now and leading with hospitable people, Taj Airport Garden Seeduwa General Manager Shekhar Walavalkar told Daily News Business.

Walavalkar takes over as the new General Manager of Airport Garden Hotel Seeduwa which will go for a name change to 'The Gateway Hotel- Airport Garden' from January next year.

The hotel has been recognized as a transit hotel but with the new look it will cater to corporate businesses and high end holiday travellers.

"The Government should look at the tax structure when considering the development of tourism sector in Sri Lanaka. The Government needs to encourage people to invest while delivering a friendly service," Taj Airport Garden's outgoing General Manager Mathew C Thomas said.

He said the hotel expects to match up to international standards and will concentrate on adding water sports to attract more tourists once the Colombo-Katunayake highway completes construction.
