Misappropriation case:

Magistrate orders full report

Kandy Magistrate Lalith Ekanayake who considered a motion filed by a State Counsel objecting to the release of a restaurant keeper held in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Paddy Marketing Boards (PMB) property on bail on Friday ordered the Attorney General to submit a full report on the issue.

The restaurant keeper who ran his restaurant in a leased PMB property in Hantane road, Kandy was arrested along with 18 others and produced in Court by Police following a complaint made by PMB Chairman that 194 bags of rice had been missing from a stock of 540 bags of rice stored at the building.

The restaurant keeper was subsequently held in remand and others released after questioning by Police.

There after the CID which investigated the complaint reported to Court that there was no evidence to trace anyone connected with the robbery.

The Restaurant keeper was thus released on Thursday on Rs 10,000 cash and Rs 50,000 personal bail.
