Nidahasa begins today:

Exhibition to mark peace

The national exhibition to mark the peaceful situation in the country will commence tomorrow under the theme Nidahasa, at the Independence Square, Colombo.

The Nidahasa exhibition will be held also to appreciate the untiring effort and yeoman service of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in liberating the country from the three decade old terrorism which brought much devastation to the country.

The exhibition will consist of several programs and events such as exhibitions, awareness programs, entertainment events and so on.

The exhibition will be opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the invitation of Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at 6 pm today. Admission to the exhibition is free. It will be open to the public from 2 pm to 10 pm daily until November 21.

A special photographic exhibition will be set up at the site under the theme "Historical Memoirs" depicting historical, social, political milestones and development programs in the history of Sri Lanka. A food exhibition which consists of all indigenous and traditional food items, will also be held under the theme "Our Food Heritage" on a kilometre long street with the assistance of several star-class hotels. The visitors will be able to taste these traditional food items while gathering knowledge about the preparation of them, Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

"The exhibition will showcase the glorious past and the culture of the country and the future development goals. Modern technology is widely used for the exhibition so as to expose the visitors to the novel technology," the Minister added.

The special "Performance Arts" zone will be set up at the exhibition venue with the intention of highlighting the inborn talents of our students. Students will perform Kandyan, Pahatha Rata and Sabaragamuwa dance items. Besides, an inter-school band competition will be held to select the best school band.

A special design zone organized by the Moratuwa University Textile and Clothing Technology Department, will take place daily.

Visitors could gain first hand information regarding modern technology invented in the world in the textile and clothing sector. The textile and the clothing exhibition will come together with a modelling extravaganza.

At the end of each day there will be a musical show with the participation of artistes and musicians.
