'Igniting' the podium
Seasoned actor, drama producer and script writer Bandula Vithanage
had set forth on a new venture with renowned actor Roger Seneviratne. He
had decided to 'set the stage on fire' by staging Romaya Gini Gani 2
(Rome on Fire 2). The production took off recently at Bellanvila
Rajamaha Viharaya.

Romaya Gini Gani 1 was staged in 1996 and the drama won best drama
award at the National Drama festival. It also bagged the awards for the
best production, best supporting actor, best actor and actress. Ratna
Lalini Jayakody, Michael Fernando, Ayesha Dissanayake, Upali Bandara,
Sampath Tennakoon, Tilini Priyanwada and Shashiranga Wickramasinghe are
included in the cast. Vithanage had trabslated and directed the
production. Seneviratne will produce Romaya Gini Gani 2. Vajira Kumari
vithanage will handle the stage coordination.
Rohana Samaradivakara will be in charge of the stage setting. Edward
Chandrasiri will be the production manager. Vithanage and Seneviratne
have also made plans to bring forth three dramas for 2011. Romaya Gini
Gani 2 hopes to go on boards theatres at the beginning of next year.
William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice and Hamlet too will be
brought on stage by the team. Seneviratne will portray the roles of
Sylock and Prince Hamlet in these plays. They are looking for new faces
to take on the rest of the roles.
