Ampara to plant 120,000 trees

Ampara Government Agent Sunil Kannangara has organized a series of
programs in Ampara District to plant 120,000 plants in every Divisional
Secretariat to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second swearing in
ceremony.
Ampara Kachcheri, Divisional Secretariats, Hospitals, Schools,
Pradeshiya Sabhas and all other Government departments have organized
their own program to plant trees to mark the event. The main ceremony of
the day in Ampara will take place at Ampara DS Senenayake Maha Vidyalaya
today where Government Agent Sunil Kannangara will participate as Chief
Guest and inaugurate the program by planting a tree sapling.
All development programs in the Ampara District will also inaugurated
in several parts of the District on November 20 and Buddhist religious
observances have organized in the Buddhist temples on the day to invok
blessings on President Mahinda Rajapaksa Meanwhile Mosques and Hindu
temples too have organized several religious observances for President
Rajapaksa.
Government Agent Kannangara has requested the public to participate
in the shramadana campaigns launched at the “Gama Neguma” development
program in the District which has been scheduled from November 15 to 19.
A mass tree planting program will be launched at the Oluwil Campus at
the South Eastern University today under the patronage of its
Vice-Chancellor Dr. SM Mohamed Ismail to mark President Mahinda
Rajapaksa’s second swearing ceremony where one thousand plants are to be
planted in the University.
Deans of all Faculties, Heads of Departments, Lectures, students and
nonacademic Staff of the University will participate in this event where
religious observances too would be the important feature of the program.
Meanwhile, the Road Development Authority Officials in Akkaraipattu
have organized religious observances at their office premises where
Moulavis will participate in the recital of “Special Thuwa” on Friday
November 19. Additional Provincial Director RDA Eng. AL M. Nizer told
the Daily News that his officials have made all arrangements to
distribute lunch packets to the poor in the vicinity also would be
distributed on the day.
