The Prime Minister in his capacity as the Buddhasasana and Religious
Affairs Minister earlier issued instructions to all Haj pilgrim
organizers not to charge exorbitant prices from the pilgrims.
Haj pilgrims have complained to the Prime Minster that the cost for
airfare, accommodation and food are very high and they cannot afford
them.
Prime Minister Jayaratne reiterated that he would not allow pilgrim
organizers to convert the Holy pilgrimage as a business venture and
pilgrims were requested to forward such complaints to the Prime
Minister.
The Saudi Government has granted permission for more than 5,800
Muslim devotees to go on the Haj pilgrimage this year and the Government
has registered over 70 institutions that organize Haj pilgrimages. |
