Army ruggerites for Malaysia

The Sri Lanka Army rugby team will take part in the annual Cobra ten-a-side rugby tournament to be held in Malaysia on November 12 and 13, 2010. The Army team performed exceptionally well during the season, finishing sixth in the Caltex league rugby tournament. They were unfortunate to lose to the more fancied teams by narrow margins.

They also were semi-finalists in the rugby 7s and quarterfinalists in the Clifford Cup knockout tournament.

The army emerged winners of the inter-services tournament beating Sri Lanka Air Force and the Navy in the league and beating the Navy by 17 points to nil playing some excellent rugby in the final.

The Army team comprises only of members of the regular force of the Army, consisting of mostly players who learnt the rudiments of the game, after joining the Force.

The team expects to perform well in the tournament in Malaysia, which is studded with many international teams.
