IUSF Convenor refused bail

Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli yesterday rejected the bail application of Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) Convenor Udul Premaratne and ordered to remand him till November 22.

The Chief Magistrate refusing bail stated that the Magistrate's Court does not possess the power to grant bail to him. He was arrested on October 29 for forcibly entering the Higher Education Ministry premises with IUSF members and damaging the properties.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Magistrate's Court released 21 University students who were arrested for forcibly entering to the Higher Education Ministry premises on October 14.

The students were released on surety bail of Rs 25,000 each.
