Highest funds for housing development

The highest amount of Treasury funds have been given for housing development during the recent past, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

Weerawansa was speaking at the district level progress review meeting of Housing Development Program held on November 4 at the District Secretariat building, Kurunegala. Kurunegala District Divisional Secretaries Government officials and politicians participated at the ceremony to distribute housing loans and grants for Kurunegala District amounting to Rs 50 million.

Other Government institutions and state banks have come forward to offer financial support for this housing program. Utilizing all these funds, a housing program will be launched in January 2011. This is the inauguration of the One Million Housing Program to provide a house of their own, he said.

"People of this country lived with negative thoughts of defeat, failure and fear due to 30 years experiences of war. This led professionals to leave the country and unemployed youth migrated to Middle East countries and to dispose profit making state institutions to foreigners," he said.
