Sri Lanka excels at Gitex Technology Week 2010
The efforts of Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) came to
fruition at the Gitex Technology Week 2010 in Dubai with Sri Lanka's ICT
industry standing out at the event.

GITEX is one of the Middle East's largest and most popular key
business and technology forums that attracts a diverse audience
including IT professionals, technology enthusiasts and consumers as well
as regional traders, making it an ideal platform for Sri Lankan ICT
companies to demonstrate the latest products and services to the
Middle-East and African markets.
Gitex Times, the daily publication of GITEX commenting in a column
under the topic "Sun shines on Sri Lankan IT vendors said that Sri Lanka
is a well-established centre for ICT in the Asia region, and is ranked
among the top 50 in AT Kearney's Global Services location Index for
2009."
EDB Chairman Janaka Ratnayake who addressed a gathering of more than
50 CEOs and IT heads of Middle Eastern companies at the "Sri Lanka ICT
Meet" on October 20 at the Sri Lanka Pavilion said, Sri Lanka is the
most preferred hub in the Asian region for ICT and is renowned for
best-of-breed quality.
This networking event was organized by the EDB during the GITEX 2010
to give an insight into the emerging opportunities in Sri Lanka.
The AT Kearney report which was quoted at the presentation, said Sri
Lanka offers many of the advantages as India does, with similar labour
costs, widespread use of English, sound education systems and an
increasingly open and a well-regulated business environment indicating
that Sri Lanka is a potential destination for location of IT and BPO
related industries.
In addition, it was also highlighted that Colombo the business
capital has been recognized as a global centre of excellence for Finance
and Accounting, by Global Services Magazine ranking the city fifth in
the world.
Sri Lanka's participation this year in the Gitex Technology Week has
been the fourth consecutive one.
This year too, Seven of Sri Lanka's Best ICT Companies showcased
their products and services in the Sri Lanka Pavilion at GITEX 2010.
The companies that participated at the Gitex 2010 are Aklo IT, Data
Management Systems (DMS), Dinota Information Technologies, hSenid, i-Context,
JKCS and Just In Time Group (JIT).
These Sri Lankan companies had a strong track record in providing
software solution to multiple industry verticals such as Commercial,
Mobile and Telecom, Banking and Finance Food and Beverage, Airport and
Aviation, Hospitality, Educational Institutions, Digital Lifestyle and
Government.
The Sri Lankan participants expressed satisfaction on participating
at GITEX 2010.
Participants are confident that at least $ US 1.2 million worth of
contracts could be signed during next three to six months as a result of
their participation.
More than 3,500 technology companies from 65 nations showcased their
products and services to more than 100,000 business visitors mainly from
Middle Eastern countries this year at GITEX. |
