Johnson KOs Green to advance
Glen Johnson, a former world light heavyweight champion, knocked out
Allan Green in the eighth round Saturday to advance to the semi-finals
of the Super Six super middleweight tournament.
The Jamaican-born Johnson used a devastating right-left combination
to floor Green just 36 seconds into the round at the MGM Grand casino.
Schiavone scores first point for Italy
Francesca Schiavone easily beat young American Coco Vandeweghe 6-2,
6-4 to register the first point for Italy in the final of the Fed Cup
against the United States on Saturday.
World number seven Schiavone got off to a quick start Saturday and
dominated the 18-year-old Vandeweghe, who is ranked 114th in the world.
Metsu searches for Qatar magic touch
Qatar coach Bruno Metsu, the miracle worker of Senegal's 2002 World
Cup, hopes that an Asian Games gold will preface a successful Asian Cup
assault on home turf in 2011.
He knows the punishment for failure is likely to be swift in a Gulf
region blessed with sky-high budgets but cursed with wafer-thin

Phelps returns to Olympic quest next week
Michael Phelps, who won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing
Olympics, resumes his quest for gold at the 2012 London Olympics next
week when he swims at the Minnesota Grand Prix.
Phelps, who also captured six golds at the 2004 Athens Games, and
fellow American Ryan Lochte head the lineup. |
