New Kurunegala Bishop

Rev Greg Shantha Kumar Francis has been appointed as the fifth Bishop of Kurunegala of the Church of Ceylon, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kurunegala Rt Revd Kumara Illangasinghe and the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Kurunegala said.


National Archives week from today

The Inauguration Ceremony of the National Archives Week will be held under the patronage of National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Deputy Minister Gunarathna Weerakoon today.

"New Trends in Archives" is the theme of the National Archives Week.

The program's main objective is to provide awareness to the public about the National Archives Department funtions. The Department has organized an archives exhibition along with the Archives Week. This exhibition will be held from November 8 to 14.

The employees who have completed 25 years at the National Archives Department will be felicitated.

The best archives room will also receive an award.

Along with the Inauguration Ceremony, a seminar will be held under the theme New Trends in Archives for schoolchildren, university students and readers.


Kandy YMBA 45th anniversary

The Kandy YMBA celebrates its 45th anniversary on November 13.

The event is marked by a pirith ceremony on the 13th night commencing at 8 pm and followed by a Sangika Dana for 45 Theras announced the Chief Chairman of the Kandy YMBA Gamini Bandara Dalanwela.


Development program

A program to develop a cluster of three under developed villages has been drawn up.

The three villages are Suhadagama, Polambayagama and Heenabogamuwa.

The program will be launched on November 18 at 8 a.m. to coincide with the inauguration of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term of office the following day said Minister Semasinghe.

He said a pirith chanting will also be held to invoke blessings on President Rajapaksa.


Four Peradeniya Faculties opened Asela Kuruluwansa and Samanthi Weerasekera

The Peradeniya University Engineering, Agriculture, Science and Arts Faculties which had been closed due to students unrest are now reopened.


Tissa Central, Kalutara launches new projects

Tissa Central College, Kalutara which celebrated its 74th anniversary on November 5 will initiate a series of school development projects at 9 am today, Monday, November 8, Principal Wilfred Weerasinghe said.

Among the new projects planned by the school are a new building complex, an auditorium and a swimming pool. Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Sports Minister C B Ratnayake are expected to grace today's occasion.
