Result of bilateral discussions:

Indian training for forest officers

The Indian Government has agreed to facilitate a residential training program in India by next year for Sri Lankan forest officers.

This offer had been granted as a result of bilateral discussions with an Indian delegation who participated for the South Asia Cooperative Environment Program held in Sri Lanka recently.

Training will be conducted in Indian forests for groups comprising about 10 at a time. Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that a uniform for the forest officers will also be introduced in the near future.

“Service of forest officers in protecting the forest cover is enormous. In admiration of their work we have to upgrade their position in the society.

They must be satisfied with their occupation. We have taken measures to look in to their problems,” the Minister said.
