Matale district hospital psychiatric ward:

Inquiry into nurses’ boycott

The Central Province Health Ministry has initiated an inquiry into the incident where the nursing staff of the Matale district hospital psychiatric ward keeping away from duties in protest of police arresting a male nursing officer who allegedly attempted to harass a woman visiting a patient.

On a complaint made to the police the nurse had been arrested by the police on September 26 and remanded on Court orders.

Although hospital authority took measures to transfer the indoor patients to other wards, due to protest made by the other nurses in the wards, the patients had to be transferred to Kandy General Hospital.

The ward which had been closed for over a week was reopened on Thursday (04).
