The FMCG and garment related industries have shown a large
requirement for labels especially from countries such as Pakistan,
Bangladesh and the Middle East.

The demand has been created due to the expansions taking place in
those industries and Sri Lankan made labels are well in demand in those
countries, DPJ Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, Chairman/CEO Prasantha Jayamanna told
Daily News Business. These markets have been underserved for a long time
for labels and the barcode industry.
“It will be a niche market when the suppliers get their presence
there. We have set up a branch in Bangladesh recently where there is a
good picking up market,” Jayamanna said. He said Bangladesh is becoming
a more industrialized market as there are many garments, super markets
coming up where there will be a lot of trading.
“The Middle East market too has changed their suppliers from European
markets to Asian markets. Therefore, Sri Lankan label and barcode
manufacturing companies can cater to those markets,” he said.
DPJ Labels have invested US $ 1.5 million on the expansion of its
manufacturing plant which will add 300 percent additional capacity.
DPJ Labels will export 20 percent from the total production to
Pakistan and Bangladesh towards the end of next year. The 20 percent
export to these two countries will amount to Rs 550 million in the
future,” he said.
The company will soon expand to markets in Australia and Germany.
There will be a domestic market growth in the label and barcode
industry as many FMCG and many other industries are coming up. |
