Treasure hunters arrested

Medawachchiya Magistrate Chandima Edirisinghe ordered two suspects arrested by Medawachchiya police while hunting treasure in Udumbigala area on November 16 to be remanded. Police said during the raid about 10 persons were engaged in treasure hunting and two were arrested.

According to police one of the two suspects is Vasantha Sandanayake a Civil Defence Officer. seven other Civil Defence officers are also involved in the incident.

the Magistrate ordered police to arrest the other suspects and produce them in Court.

The Magistrate hailed the services rendered by Medawachchiya Police OIC Gehan Amarasooriya and the other officers in preventing crimes.

Police are conducting investigations.
