President assures at Nuwara Eliya:

Brighter future for the young

All should unite to develop country:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that his aim is to bestow posterity to a county in which all could live in unity.

The President added that he would dedicate for a brighter future to the younger generation by developing the country with the support of all citizens. President Rajapaksa was participating at the Deepavali celebrations with children in the plantation schools and members of the Tamil community at President’s House in Nuwara Eliya.

Disabled and orphaned children in the plantation sector also participated in this ceremony.

President Rajapaksa presented a laptop to A Thishanthan of Highland Central College, Hatton who won the Junior Mathematics Olympiad in Indonesia.

President Rajapaksa mentioned that all efforts would be taken to make a well mannered society which respects and cares for the elders, parents and teachers. He presented gifts to the children.

He said that the light of development and freedom has dawned to the country. “We should create a country in which bad has been overcome by good.

The President said that people of all communities should join together to create a society where truth reigns.

He stressed that the people have complete freedom of movement.

The President said that people can go to any place in the country without fear.

The President said the country was liberated from terrorism. He added that the freedom achieved by the country should be made more meaningful.

“We should strive for a prosperous country for our younger generations. He was of the opinion that an opportunity should be given to the younger generation to highlight their hidden talents.

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that Deepavali Festival is an important event in Hindu calendar.

He was of the opinion that this festival helps instill positive attitudes, confidence and enthusiasm among the people.

Livestock Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman, Sports Minister C.B. Ratnayake, Deputy Economic Development Minister Muthu Sivalingam, Attorney-at-Law Pushpa Rajapaksa were also present.
