North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake
emphasized that in the future schools and medical institutes constructed
in rural areas would have residential facilities for the working staff.
He pointed out that doctors, nurses and teachers have been reluctant to
serve in village areas due to the shortage of facilities in the areas.
The Chief Minister said so after the inauguration of the new three
storied nurses hostel complex of the Tambuttegama general hospital
recently. The NCPC has spent Rs 15 million for the building complex.
The hostel could accommodate 20 nurses with all residential comforts
being provided.
"In view of the large population living in the region the hospital
has now been elevated to the status of a general hospital.
Steps have been taken to deploy specialized doctors and nurses along
with other employees to the hospital with a operation theatre, blood
bank, x-ray unit and residential quarters being provided," he said. |
