Security beefed at Lady Ridgeway

The Health Ministry has taken steps to strengthen the security provided for doctors at the Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital. Several decisions were taken at a meeting in this regard, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman the number of visitors will be limited to two and only two passes will be issued for one patient here after. The number of police officers who are serving at the hospital police post will be increased. More staff will be added to the hospital's internal security.

These steps to be taken according to some decisions made by the ministry authorities at a meeting held yesterday with the participation of all relevant parties involved in the incident that took place at the hospital recently where a visitor attacked a lady doctor in ward three.

Now the lady doctor is receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital. The visitor had attacked her with a knife and threatened to kill her, he added.
