The Education Ministry intends to set up a world class model school
with all facilities in Sri Lanka.
The model school including 14 classes will commence from January next
year and will be set up at the Pitipana area in Homagama.
The Ministry has decided to admit students who exceed the cut off
marks at the grade five scholarship examination, Education Minster
Bandula Gunawardene told the media briefing.
The school has been constructed under supervision of a team of
experts from the Colombo University.
Approximately 20 acres land has been used to put up the school while
it is equipped with modern buildings, laboratories, computers and
stadiums.
The school will function from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm. Extra two hours
have been assigned for various extra curricular activities such as arts,
dancing, music, sports and languages, Gunawardene said.
"Lot of students in Kaduwela, Avissawella, Maharagama, Kesbewa,
Homagama and Kottawa come to study in the Colombo city.
This situation has caused several problems. This model school will be
a answer for that", he said. |
