Charmaine wins charity IVHES awards

The International Voluntary Humanitarian and Environmental services award trophy to a distinguished community champion was awarded to Charmaine Jayatilleke, MBE for her exceptional services to humanity. Nelson Mandela of South Africa was amongst the previous recipients of the award.

The award was presented to her by councilor the Mayor of Milton Keynes Debbie Brock.

This ceremony was hosted by Milton Keynes, Director for equality council Navrita Atwal and organized by organizer of miss commonwealth UK 2010 Dr Phil Patricks. At this event Miss Commonwealth UK, Mrs. Commonwealth UK and Miss Teen Commonwealth UK were also crowned.

Derana City of Dance winners

The most watched reality show in Sri Lanka on channel Derana ‘City of Dance held its grand finale on October 15 at the National Youth Centre Indoor Stadium bringing the roof down with some amazing moves by season 2 finalists.

Thousands of participants from all over the island came to participate in this competition and from that the group of dancers names Matara Blue Thunder won first place in the Group category while the Colombo Crazy rockers came second. In the solo category Dilshara Ushani (Kurunegala Super Eagle) won first place and H K Ranjeewa got the second place.

The final decision to choose the winners was left to the audience with their SMS voting.

The judges who were helping to chose the person to next rounds were Upeksha Swarnamali, Kevin Nugara, Mohan Sudusinghe and Himali Siriwardena.

Yasmin Cader talks about PR and Alzheimers

Well known PR and hotel personality Yasmin Cader chats to Kumar de Silva on Prime TV Roundtable’s Celeb Chat on Monday 08 November at 9.30 pm.

She talks about her journey through PR over nearly three decades from the Intercontinental Hotel in the early 1980s and Hilton Colombo’ to Cinnamon Grand and now to Cinnamon Lakeside.

Listen to her recall the joys of PR and networking with different people from different walks of life with some 1,700+++ telephone numbers stored in her mobile phone.

The proud grandmother of 08 month old Amir, she spends her nights and weekends ‘skype-ing’ him to the USA much to their mutual joy and happiness. Yasmin Cader is also a livewire of the Lanka Alzheimers Foundation and spends much of her time trying to alleviate the pain and suffering of both patients and their families.

Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation is an Approved Charity and a registered volunteer based community organization. The Foundation’s Mission is, “To do all that is possible to improve the quality of life of those with Alzheimer’s and related disorders (dementia) and support their families and carers to cope with the challenges generated by those conditions and provide sustainable information and practical modalities to those reaching their senior years, to maintain the rigors of healthy living and commit to stay engaged throughout those years”.

ROB against drugs



Rotary Club of Rangiri Dambulla

Drug addiction is a menace all over the country with intensified concentration among schoolchildren.

Since the illegal drug dealers are influencing schoolchildren to designer drugs and due to their lack of knowledge about them, a considerable number of students are addicted to various drugs.

The ROB (Rotaract Club of Battaramulla) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Rangiri Dambulla and ADIC (Alcohol and Drug Information Center) organized a workshop to educate the schoolchildren of Dambulla and Galewela areas on drug and alcohol prevention. The workshops were concurrently held in Rangiri Dambulla National College, Dambulla and in the Regional Council, Galewela. The program was conducted by the ADIC.

Rotaract Club of Battaramulla is already being involved in various programs as a youth team, especially in the avenue of community service as well as in club service. The Presidential Installation of the fifth President Rtr Suranga Lakmal was held last month along with an astonishing award ceremony for Rotaractors for the first time in Sri Lanka.


Sri Lanka enjoyed by Germans


The twenty DeTour executives at the Negombo Lagoon with DeTours Resident representative Deva Fernando.

One hundred tour executives of “DeTours” a major travel firm of Germany visited Sri Lanka on a familiarization tour. They visited all the important places of tourist interest cultural sites, wild life sanctuaries, beaches in the North and East of the country, tea and rubber plantations and the up market hotels. The two weeks program for these visitors was arranged by De Tours Resident Representative Deva Fernando in conjunction with Jet Travels.

The “De Tour executives were impressed with what the country had to offer to the visiting Germans and according to Deva, they have assured that as from this month there would be many German holiday makers sent here through their firm.
