World-class training for hair and beauty industry
International hair specialist concludes Look and Learn seminar amidst
high participation and launch of Institute of Hair and Beauty.
Over 500 stylists, hairdressers and professionals from across Sri
Lanka's hair and beauty industry participated in the Look and Learn
seminar conducted by world renowned hair stylist, trainer and judge
Joakim Roos on October 19. The seminar concluded on a grand scale with
the launch of the Institute of Hair and Beauty (IHB) and models
showcasing the latest styles and design in hairdressing.

Joakim Roos was in Sri Lanka for a week to coach the national team
participating in this year's OMC Hair World 2010 in Paris. This world
hairdressing championships organized by Organization Mondiale Coiffure
(OMC) will be held on November 6, 7 and 8 at the N C B Paris. The Sri
Lankan team will showcase their talents and test their skills as they
compete against the best of the industry from around the world.
The Sri Lankan team consists of six hairstylists and beauticians,
namely Prabath Saranga, Shakir Mirza, Shani Fernando, Mayuri
Tilakawardena, Jeeva Binduhewa and Ishan Sudirikku, winners of OMC Asia
Cup 2010, held in March this year.
The team will be accompanied by Board member and President of OMC
Asia Zone Nayana Karunaratne, President of Sri Lanka Association of
Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) Rayaka Jayasuriya, OMC
International Judge Johann Peiris, Ramzi Rahaman and Kanchana Godigamuwa
who is the trainer from Salon Nayana trainer.
Both the seminar and hands on training provided an opportunity for
participants to enhance their skills, gain a better understanding of the
current trends and new techniques as they gear up to face the challenges
of the industry.
Participants included experienced and professional salon owners,
hairstylists and beauticians as well as other experts from the industry.
A range of subjects, such as latest commercial haircuts, trend cuts,
popular bridal and long hairstyles were addressed in detail by Joakim.
Collections of trendy haircuts and styles were also showcased.
A special feature of the day was the launch of the Institute of Hair
and Beauty (IHB), a registered institution under SLAHAB. The institute
will offer internationally recognized qualifications in hairdressing and
beauty therapy.
The Diploma and Advanced Diploma certifications offered will be on
par with International Vocational Skills (IVQ) Level 2 and Level 3 of
City & Guilds and HABIA of UK, while the examinations will also be
recognized by other global bodies such as the World Federation of
Hairdressers.
