German Parliamentary delegation due to visit Sri Lanka

A delegation of German Parliamentarians led by Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group on South Asia, Dagmar Ernstberger, is expected in Colombo in November for a four day visit.

The delegation will meet with Government officials, representatives of civil society and religious dignitaries. Also included is a tour of the Northwestern Province where they will witness the ongoing German-Sri Lankan cooperation in demining and resettlement programs.

German Ambassador Jens Pl"tner underlined that this was the first visit of a Parliamentary delegation since the end of the war.

"In this crucial phase of Sri Lanka's history, the re-engaging in a substantial political dialogue is of particular importance.

Germany wants to assist Sri Lanka in its transformation from a country at war to a society living in peace.

In that respect, this visit will give German politicians a first-hand impression on progress made and of challenges ahead.
