Renewable energy will ensure future world stability - Minister

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that renewable energy is one of the most important factors that would ensure future world stability.

He was addressing the 4th International Ministerial Conference on renewable energy held in New Delhi, India.

Considerable renewable energy sources have been identified in Sri Lanka and the Government is constantly conducting research with the objective of developing them, the Minister said.

The Government is also taking steps to overcome technical obstacles to the utilization of wind power and solar power with the help of indigenous expertise, he added.

Special attention has been given to generating electricity by using bio-fuels that could be developed using gliricidia and other available plant species, the Minister said.

He also had a special discussion with Indian National Thermal Electricity Institute Chairman Anup Roy Chandra during his stay in New Delhi.
