Soldiers build, renovate houses

Army Formations in Wanni and North have constructed 4,575 new houses and rebuilt or renovated 2,758 existing units to support the Government’s Uthuru Vasanthaya program on the instructions of Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after the resettlement drive commenced.

Soldiers serving field formations under Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Jaffna put up those houses with the cooperation of State agencies, private donors, recipients and Non Govenmental Organizations (NGOs). About 2,293 new houses had been built in Kilinochchi.

Troops built 1,030 houses in Mullaittivu, 662 in Wanni, 572 in Jaffna and 18 in the East.

As the resettlement program reached its apex, soldiers with the consent of the returnees renovated or repaired 2,758 dilapidated or damaged houses in Wanni and the North.

This renovation and repair program covered 962 houses in Kilinochchi, 897 in Mullaitivu, 897 in Wanni and 2 in Jaffna.
