Ruhuna University incidents:
'University Students' Federation to be blamed'

The Ruhuna University Science Faculty Students' Union said the
University Students' Federation should be blamed for unruly incidents in
the Ruhuna University.
The Science Faculty Students' Union pointed out that the union has
been against ragging for over 14 years. It pointed out that the
University Students' Federation backed by the JVP always stands for
ragging. They also try to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the
universities.
According to the release, the Science Faculty Students' Union
launched a poster campaign and built a pandal to welcome newcomers to
the Science Faculty. However, the posters were torn-off and the pandal
was destroyed by the University Students' Federation. Federation
activists also attacked Science Faculty students on several occasions
within the University premises and outside the University. Eight
students were hospitalised following the assault. The University
Students' Federation has created a unruly behaviour in the University,
the release said.
Vice Chancellor Professor Sucharith Mendis and Student advisor Saman
Chandana who came to control the unruly behaviour of University
Students' Federation members were allegedly assaulted by their members,
the release said.
The Science Faculty Students' Union said the University Students'
Federation is trying to disrupt the calm situation of the Ruhuna
