CP Governor congratulates Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith

Archbishop Dr Malcolm Ranjith's elevation to the dignity of a Cardinal by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI is a pride to the entire Sri Lankan nation, said Cental Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa in a congratulatory message issued yesterday.

The message said His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith rendered a great service to safeguard Sri Lanka's image at the Vatican when LTTE terrorists and their accomplices carried out an international campaign to tarnish the country's good name at the height of the humanitarian war to liberate the Tamil people from LTTE clutches.

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith's elevation also symbolised the special honour and prestige Sri Lanka had achieved globally after defeating the ruthless terrorists.

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith would be a great source of strength for President Mahinda Rajapaksa's mission to create a disciplined society rich in moral and spiritual values.
