Missing boat found in Maldives

The Sri Lankan multi-day fishing boat Dinusha-2 with five fishermen on board reported missing was found by the Maldivian Coast Guard yesterday.

Four fishermen had died while one was in a critical condition, Fisheries and Aquatic Ministry sources said.

The boat had been found floating following a technical error.

The five fishermen had been traveling in the boat without food for several days. The Maldivian Embassy informed the Sri Lankan authorities about the incident.

The only survivor K D Mahesh Kumara had said the other four fishermen had died to not having food and water.

Arrangements are underway to bring the fishermen and the four bodies to Sri Lanka.
