Arrested for burglaries

Panadura Police Special Unit officials arrested three suspects who
had allegedly burgled several houses in Ingiriya, Bandaragama and
Panadura Police areas and stolen Rs 1.2 million worth goods and gold
chains and cash. Most articles had been recovered from their possession.
The suspects were produced before Horana Magistrate M Attygala and
remanded pending further investigations. The arrest was made on the
direction of Panadura SSP Sumith Edirisinghe.
Mason electrocuted

A mason died of electrocution and another labourer was injured and
admitted to the Peradeniya hospital when a steel rod they were placing
on a worksite at Eriyagama for a concrete slab accidentally touched an
overhead electricity transmission line Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as C M Gunasekera (58) of Eriyagama.
Peradeniya Police are investigating.
Police mobile service
The second police mobile service of the Meegahawatta Police will be
held at the Siyambalapewatta Sri Sambodhi Viharaya on October 23 at 8
am.

Western Provincial Council Member Gunasiri Jayantha (PA) Biyagama
Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Sampath (UNP) and Kelaniya SSP

Five nabbed with cement slabs

Millaniya Police arrested five suspects with a lorry load of cement
slabs stolen from the Colombo-Matara Highway work site at Paragastota
Sunday.
Investigations revealed that they had stolen the cement slabs
continuously from the work site. The suspects are to be produced before
the Horana Magistrate.
The raid was conducted by the Millaniya Police.
Exhibitions to mark Science Day
The technology and Research Ministry will hold science and The
technology exhibition week in every district to mark National Science
Day which falls on November 10. The exhibition includes science related
displays, seminars, science lectures and workshops for entrepreneurs.
The objective of the exhibition week is to make the people aware on
technology.
An award ceremony will be held on November 10 to recognize the
scientists who have contributed for the uplift of researches.
Sportex SC beat visiting Indians

The Sri Lanka Amateur Cricket Federation organized T-20 cricket
tournament was held at Uyanwatta Stadium Matara during the weekend. The
legendary Matara mauler Sanath Jayasuriya member of Parliament for the
Matara District was the chief guest.
Five teams Old Servatians CA and FC, Old Thomian Cricket Club, Rahula
Cricket Academy, Sportex Sports Club and Matara City Club battled it
out. Sportex Sports Club emerged undefeated champs. They met the
visiting Amateur Cricket Federation of India team and defeated them
easily in the final.
