Sachithra bowls Ananda to victory

Leg spinner Sachithra Perera took a match bag of eleven wickets to spearhead Ananda College to their second successive victory as they defeated Richmond College Galle outright by four wickets in their annual inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

The Anandians of course went through some anxious moments and struggled somewhat during their run chase in the second innings before eventually reaching their target in 15 overs with more than a session to spare.

The Ananda top order collapsed sensationally against the spin of Dileepa Priyadarshana who put up a splendid performance to make a match of it while returning excellent figures of five wickets for 32.

Earlier Sachithra Perera produced a repeat of his first innings performance to skittle out Richmond for a mere 75 runs in the second innings.

Together with Pasindu Madushan the pair completely mesmerized the opposition with the innings lasting just 32 overs.

This was after Ananda College had snatched a vital first innings lead of 23 runs following some useful contributions from the late order batsmen. Dananjaya de Silva added three more wickets to his tally and finished with superb figures of seven for 81.

Richmond: 152 and 75 (S. Dissanayake 26, S. Perera 5 for 20, P. Madushan 3 for 20)

Isuru-Carey’s hero

Skipper Isuru Amila produced a fine all round performance to help Carey College beat Loyala College outright by an innings and 179 runs in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Mount Mary yesterday.

The middle order batsman hammered a splendid 137 to enable his team reach a formidable 358 for 6 in their first innings and then snapped up four wickets for eight runs to dismiss the opposition for just 63 runs in the second innings.

Loyala College: 116 (C. Lakdiv 23, S. Harshana 29, C. Mapatuna 5 for 64, I. Amila 3 for 43) and 63 (S. Harshana 33 n.o, I. Amila 4 for 8, C. Mapatuna 4 for 36)
