MRI told to expand research

Acting Health Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had instructed health officials to expand research activities done by the Medical Research Institute (MRI) and focus on the diseases and disorders that caused by change of food habits and lifestyles, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman the Acting Minister had pointed out that the required attention has not been given to study and conduct research on the changes, diseases and disorders that caused in the human body due to the change of food habits and lifestyles.

The amount of researches carried out by the MRI needs to be increased. A discussion to be held shortly in this regard.

Amaraweera had expressed those views after handing over appointment letters to 757 new post intern doctors during a ceremony held in Colombo yesterday.

He had also stressed the importance of giving a good leadership to the rural hospitals located.
